Thank you for contacting me about the immigrant children who are reaching our southern border in record numbers.
We are facing a crisis. We weren’t prepared to deal with the influx of tens of thousands of children that have arrived at the border. In many of these cases, the children should probably be returned to their homes and families. In some cases, the children may have legitimate claims of asylum. However, we can’t determine if these children should be returned until they appear before an immigration judge. Unfortunately, there simply aren’t enough judges to hear these cases, and in some cases it can take up to two years for such cases to be heard. This is not acceptable.
