Thank you for contacting me about executive action on immigration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) proposed ban on certain types of ammunition. I appreciate hearing from you about these issues.
In November 2014, the President announced a set of actions that federal agencies will take to address the immigration crisis. On a case-by-case basis, undocumented immigrants who are parents of United States citizens or parents of lawful U.S. residents, as well as certain undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children, would be eligible to apply for a type of temporary permission to stay in the U.S. called “deferred action.” The President’s actions would not grant permanent legal status to any undocumented immigrants, as the President cannot singlehandedly grant citizenship to new sets of individuals.
